Here are some other examples
of what one can use it for: breathing
problems, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, stopped
breathing or unconsciousness, choking, smoke
inhalation, shock, food poisoning & toxins.
In early American herbology, Samuel Thompson was
one of the most famous 18th century American
herbal doctors. Over 3 million people used his
programs and herbal formulas successfully.
Although he used many herbs, his primary two
were Cayenne and Lobelia. He often said, if only
he could use alkaloids which are considered to
be one of the most powerful types of chemicals
found in plants.
Not all plants have alkaloids and those that do
may contain only one or two. Lobelia contains 14
known alkaloids, the most prominent being
Lobeline! This may be why it has so many actions
and uses and does so many different things.
Many herbal doctors felt that it synergistically
helps your body do whatever it needs to do. In
the esteemed Merck Manual (the American book of
chemicals), it lists Lobelia as an expectorant.
It is famous for being able to purge mucous,
fluid, and just about anything from the lungs.
It also dilates the bronchial tube which makes
expectoration and breathing easier. This is why
it was often referred to as asthma weed because
so many asthmatics used it to literally stay
alive.
It is sold today in drugstores and pharmacies
around the world, but not in the United States
drug stores.
But I say it is also an expectorant to the whole
body. If a very high dose is taken, you will
experience a whole body purge (emetic), where
you urinate, sweat, vomit and even poop, often
all at the same time.
Maybe more important than anything, in the
clinic, I have seen it work miracles, by acting
as a whole body relaxant and anti-spasmodic when
nothing else seemed to work. Many herbalists,
saw that it seemed to open the body, make the
body more available for herbs and juices, and
make our systems work better.
This is one herb that must be experienced and
ALWAYS kept in your Herbal Emergency Kit.
NOTE:
An overdose is not dangerous, but causes slight
sweating and nausea. In fact, LobeliaPower
Tincture can be used as an emetic to promote
vomiting, if a toxic substance has been
swallowed.
EXCEPTION:
If the toxic substance swallowed is CAUSTIC,
then Activated Charcoal Powder should be taken
instead!
